Painting
I had a meeting for the Language Show to attend yesterday. The meeting took place in Peterborough, which is straight down the A47, a happy coincidence being that my sister lives just off that same road (as do I, for that matter).
This worked out well for me since she’d cagily asked me whether I had any plans for the weekend. You see, it’s our dad’s birthday soon and she wanted her little boy to make him a card. However, she seems to have determined that I have the mind of a child and can probably help Alfie do it better than she can.
So, the die was cast, the fates sealed, and I replied that I could stop by hers en route to the meeting.
Well, I’ll be damned if I’ve had so much fun in ages! I think I whooped and laughed way more than the little man did.
“C’mon boy, splurge it everywhere! Bleughhh!”
“Let’s see how high this paint drops from. *Stands on toes, raises arm as high as possible, then whistles as the paint enters freefall, before adding a SPLAT sound as it hits*”
We were particularly helped because my sister had bought Alfie a little craft set which was really good. Part of the contents were little eyes that roll as you incline them. You know the sort: They are little black circles in a plastic hemisphere which are free to move as gravity dictates. Well, these were great for the eyes of the starfish!
I also noticed a little pack of feathers in there, which are going to prove excellent for our next project. I had brought some paper which has a sky scene printed on it, so next week we’re going to paint a bird on it for one of his nan-nans.
Well, we were both covered in paint. My sister tried to clean Alfie’s paws with a wipe and got most off, but I had to use the tap. She asked Alfie whether he wanted to wash like the grown-ups and he dived for the basin, as good as gold.
Of course, he went and undid all of that by getting his sausage and beans smeared all over his face (as shown in the photo), but that only reinforced the charm. I can’t wait to head around there again and be a big, messy kid all over again
